If you ride COLTS or LCTA in the Scranton or Wilkes-Barre areas, you can shape the future of transit organizing in your community by taking the new rider surveys!
As a transit rider, you’re an expert on transit service in your community: what’s working, what’s not, and what the most urgent needs for investment are. These new COLTS & LCTA rider surveys are a tool to identify the issues that matter most to riders—and use that information to organize decision-makers to action.
By sharing your experience, you can show the state government that there is real demand for expanded, affordable, safe public transportation in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre—and advocate to use needed funding the way your community deserves.
The state of transit in Luzerne & Lackawanna counties
Thousands of people ride COLTS & LCTA transit every day in Luzerne and Lackawanna counties. Though the two counties are very close together, the two systems operate separately, and have their own unique challenges.
For example, LCTA recently introduced a microtransit service, LCTA Connects—which runs smaller on-demand vehicles in the place of larger fixed-route service. Through this survey, LCTA riders can share: is microtransit meeting your needs? What could be improved to make it better?
If you ride the bus, paratransit/shared-ride service, or microtransit in the Scranton or Wilkes-Barre areas, you can help win the service, fares, and transit investments that your community deserves by sharing your story.
Building rider and worker power in Luzerne & Lackawanna Counties
The systemic transit funding crisis is affecting small transit systems across Pennsylvania—and COLTS & LCTA could feel impacts soon.
Transit for All PA! has hired three new NEPA organizing fellows to deepen relationships with transit riders and workers in the Scranton and Wilkes-Barre areas. These fellows will spend the fall canvassing riders, sharing the survey, and working with local organizations to spread the word about this opportunity to shape the future of COLTS & LCTA.
Parallel to this rider survey, fellows will also be running a survey for COLTS & LCTA employees, to learn how the system is working for them—and see which areas are most urgent for state funding investment.
Transit systems should be shaped by the people who use and operate it every day. Together, transit riders and workers in Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties can share knowledge, gain common priorities, and organize to make transit in Northeast PA stronger.
