Escalation: PA Senate Republican Leadership Must Pass a Budget + Stop Transit Cuts Across Pennsylvania!

July 31, 2025

The time to TAKE ACTION IS NOW! The state budget is over a month late, and Senate Republican leadership still refuses to bring the budget for a vote and prevent transit cuts. We need you to keep the pressure on!

Transit systems across PA are lurching toward cuts, while our State Senate’s Republican leadership fails to take action. Together, it’s time to notch up the pressure to pass a state budget, with urgent funding for statewide transit at the core.

SEPTA’s service cuts and fare increases will be implemented on August 24, but we’re only days away from it being TOO LATE to prevent changes. Signs are being posted across southeastern PA at bus stops, notifying riders of the chaos to come, when dozens of bus routes go away, and nearly all other bus, train, and trolley lines face cuts to frequency.

To the North in the Lehigh Valley, LANTA is preparing itself for service cuts in the months to come.

In Pittsburgh, riders are pushing PRT to delay cuts even a few months to buy more time for a permanent, statewide funding solution before a further 35% of service is cut and fares are raised to the level of the NYC Metro.

The PA House has passed base-level transit funding at least four times, and Governor Shapiro has continually supported transit funding. Now, as the party in power, it’s up to the PA Senate Republican leadership to finally pass a state budget that stops statewide transit service cuts and fare increases, and gives us time to win a long-term funding solution.
