On June 3rd, transit riders, workers and supporters from all across PA called for an end to the transit funding crisis that is forcing imminent service cuts and fare hikes for elderly and disabled Pennsylvanians in small metros and rural communities across the state.
Transit for All PA! supporters used the Day of Action at the State Capitol to call for a solution to the $80 million (and growing!) deficit for shared-ride and paratransit in this year’s state budget—so that next year, PA can finally pass a comprehensive, long-term transportation funding package.
Across all 67 counties, millions of older adults and people with disabilities rely on this door-to-door service to reach jobs, medical appointments, groceries, and the community. This form of public transportation is particularly vital in rural and aging communities, where alternative mobility options, including fixed route transit, are limited or nonexistent.
After an inspiring rally, supporters spread out across the State Capitol for a series of more than 20 legislative visits with key State Senators and Representatives in smaller/rural parts of PA to gain their support.
But they didn’t stop there: they also knocked the doors of every State Senator and State Rep. to speak about the importance of the issue, and call for a paratransit/shared-ride funding solution in 2026—so that PA can finally pass a comprehensive transportation funding overhaul in 2027.
Transit for All PA!’s Harrisburg Day of Action was a smash success. Now it’s back to work organizing in our communities across the Commonwealth to build a movement that moves everyone forward.
