2025 was an unprecedented year for transit riders’ & workers’ organizing. People in every single State House District in PA wrote their elected Officials demanding improved public transit access for their community.
The fight for transit in PA is not over, and this movement is ready to grow.
In the last 12 months, you organized in a big way. Back in January, Transit For All PA welcomed its first full-time staffperson and we hit the ground running with a push on Governor Shapiro to make transit the central issue of the 2025 PA budget.
While the job isn’t done, your advocacy and organizing has QUADRUPLED the size of our movement to over 40,000 transit supporters in all 253 legislative districts in Pennsylvania! Here’s just some of the highlights from your year:
- 45,000 of you took action
- 400,000 letters sent to legislators
- Actions taken in ALL 253 legislative districts
- 350+ of you rallied in Harrisburg
- Attendees from 13 counties
- Every legislator learned about our campaign riders and workers
- 8 legislative meetings with constituents
- 130+ media mentions of Transit For All PA
- 75+ rallies, canvassing events, phone banks, and virtual events across PA
- Virtual or in-person events in York, Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Bethlehem, Allentown, and across every corner of the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh metros
- Organized small system riders, workers, and supporters through monthly meetings, highlighting the threat facing transit in all 67 counties
- Published a case study on rural-urban unity, and the importance of public transit in communities of all sizes
- Introduced legislation in the PA House and Senate to restore and expand service across PA, garnering dozens of cosponsors
- Won two sets of “flex” funding for emergency repairs to SEPTA and prevent service cuts to SEPTA and PRT
To date, it’s transit agencies who define the transit needs of our communities – but we know that often falls far short of what riders and workers need and want. But it’s your communities who should define what transit looks like for yourselves. Specific demands yield specific results! With clear demands and a clear base, you can collaborate to get what you need, even without transit agency support.
So in 2026, riders and workers will be building regional power together.
In four regions throughout the year, Transit For All PA will launch a paid fellowship program so communities can collectively self-determine their template for rider-worker power:
- Lancaster (Red Rose Transit)
- Lehigh and Northampton (LANTA)
- Luzerne & Lackawanna (LCTS & COLTS)
- Westmoreland
Through escalating, local campaigns, these regions will survey riders and workers, host public meetings to create demands, and host a visible action to connect your local needs to our statewide fight.
In 2025 you grew our movement to never-before-seen numbers. In 2026, you can deepen those connections to build the solidarity that wins Transit For All PA!
